SEAMPHONI
Strengthening Ecosystem-based Assessment and Monitoring for Protected Habitats in Offshore areas and Newly Identified MPAs

The SEAMPHONI project (Strengthening Ecosystem-based Assessment and Monitoring for Protected Habitats in Offshore areas and Newly Identified MPAs), funded by the European Union's Horizon Europe Programme, aims to enhance biodiversity assessment and monitoring in offshore marine areas (OMAs), which are vast, under-monitored, and largely unprotected.

It will integrate three advanced monitoring tools — environmental DNA (eDNA), acoustics, and imaging — into an Intelligent Marine Digital Twin, interoperable with the European Digital Twin Ocean. The project advances cost-efficient, continuous, and inclusive biodiversity mapping, informs protection priorities, and enhances public engagement through artistic strategies in remote areas.

EurOcean is a core partner in SEAMPHONI, leading the communication, dissemination, stakeholder engagement, and visibility activities, fostering a deeper societal connection with offshore marine ecosystems.
