EurOcean Member NausicaĆ” Calls for Blue Living Lab Projects

Blue Living Lab: Empowering Innovation for a Sustainable Ocean

Since its creation by Nausicaá in 2019, the Blue Living Lab has become a dynamic incubator for start-ups and entrepreneurs pioneering sustainable solutions in the blue economy. Positioned at the intersection of innovation, science, and ocean stewardship, the Lab offers a unique environment for developing and testing new ideas that tackle the ocean’s most pressing challenges.

Entrepreneurs participating in the Blue Living Lab benefit from personalised guidance, technical equipment, and exclusive access to testing facilities. Beyond practical support, the Lab fosters collaboration, enabling participants to build strategic partnerships, expand their professional networks, and tap into the deep expertise of Nausicaá, National Sea Centre in France.

As a platform for open innovation and experimentation, the Lab connects emerging ventures with Nausicaá’s visitors and stakeholders, offering direct opportunities for market testing and public engagement. Participants can conduct live prototype trials within the aquarium and benefit from exposure to a wide audience.

To date, the Lab has supported 20 innovative projects across diverse fields such as virtual aquariums, fish larvae breeding, marine ecosystem modeling using AI, coral restoration, and sustainable sea transport. It has also partnered with Ocean Hackathons and digital transformation events, strengthening its role as a driver of innovation.

Since 2022, the Blue Living Lab has taken on a new role as a coordination hub for reducing plastic pollution in French ports within the English Channel and North Sea, as part of the European TREASURE project.
