The European Commission, in partnership with the United Nations and with the friendly collaboration of the Smurfs, invites everyone to join the 8th edition of the #EUBeachCleanup campaign. The campaign runs until October 2025, with a peak of activities on 20 September – World Cleanup Day.
The initiative highlights the urgent need to tackle marine litter, which remains a major threat to ocean health. The recently adopted European Ocean Pact further underscores the importance of reducing pollution as a priority for a sustainable ocean.
How to Get Involved
Last year, more than 12,270 volunteers worldwide took part. This year’s goal is to go even further. Whether on a beach, in a city, along a river, or in a park – every action counts.
You can:
-
Organise a cleanup or encourage local NGOs and authorities to do so.
-
Register your event to be part of the global campaign.
-
Share your activities using the hashtag #EUBeachCleanup.
