EurOcean at Sea Week 2025

On 13 November, the ceremony of the 5th edition of the Mário Ruivo Award took place, celebrating young storytellers and their visions for the ocean.

EurOcean’s Executive Director Sandra Sá attended the event, which distinguishes short films of up to seven minutes, in Portuguese or subtitled in Portuguese, that highlight the importance of the ocean. The competition is open to young people aged 14 to 21, participating individually or in teams of up to five, including those living or studying in Portugal as well as young Portuguese nationals living abroad.

The ceremony also featured a talk by Vânia Baptista, winner of the 2nd edition of the Mário Ruivo Memorial Lecture. She shared her inspiring journey of becoming a researcher and a laureate, highlighting how she overcame various challenges along the way. Her message was thoughtfully adapted to the young participants in the room, encouraging them to pursue their curiosity and scientific aspirations.

On 14 November, EurOcean’s Executive Director Sandra Sá is currently attending the seminar “A informação do meio marinho e a ciência ao serviço da sociedade”, organised by DGPM – Directorate General for Maritime Policy and IPMA – Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere.

The event, part of the 2025 Sea Week programme, is taking place at the IPMA Auditorium in Algés. It focuses on the importance of marine data and scientific knowledge in shaping effective and informed public policies, and on promoting the sustainable management of marine and coastal resources to support a sustainable blue economy. The seminar is open to the public.
