The European Commission has launched a public consultation on the revision of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD). The revision aims to better protect marine environments, simplify implementation, and reduce administrative burdens.

The MSFD, in place since 2008, has improved knowledge of Europe’s seas and marine biodiversity but has not fully achieved its goal of “good environmental status.” Stakeholders and the public are invited to provide input via the Have Your Say portal until 9 March 2026.
