EurOcean Member NausicaĆ” Publishes a Statement Calling for Ambitious Implementation - Entry into Force of the BBNJ Treaty
On the occasion of the entry into force of the BBNJ Treaty on 17 January 2026, Nausicaá has published a statement calling for renewed ambition in the governance of the high seas.
In this statement, Nausicaá highlights the historic significance of the treaty and stresses the need to translate this milestone into concrete action, particularly in view of the first Conference of the Parties scheduled for the end of 2026.
Nausicaá calls for:
- science-based and transparent implementation of the agreement,
- effective marine protected areas in the high seas,
- strengthened scientific cooperation,
- greater involvement of youth and civil society in ocean governance.
