EurOcean Member NausicaĆ” Launches Appeal for Donations to Support Coral Restoration Expedition

Coral reefs are facing an unprecedented crisis. According to the IPCC, 70 to 90% of them could disappear if global warming reaches +1.5°C, and up to 99% at +2°C. These essential ecosystems are home to up to 30% of known marine biodiversity and play a vital role for millions of people. Their rapid decline calls for urgent reinforcement of research, experimentation, and scientific monitoring.

In response to this worrying situation, Nausicaá, the National Sea Center, is supporting the Corail Résilience project and launching an appeal for donations to support a scientific expedition in April 2026 to the Cartagena de Indias region of Colombia. The aim is to test a structure for coral cuttings, already studied in the Nausicaá tanks, in a natural environment.

The project aims to raise €40,000 to finance marine deployment, scientific monitoring and public awareness activities.
