EurOcean Member CESAM Researchers Co-Author the Crete Declaration on One Health

CESAM researchers Olga Ameixa and Heliana Teixeira are co-authors of the Crete Declaration: Uniting Science for One Health, published in the open-access journal Research Ideas and Outcomes (RIO). The declaration highlights the interconnected nature of global challenges such as epidemics, food security, biodiversity loss and pollution, calling for integrated and coordinated scientific and policy responses under a One Health framework.

The document mobilises large-scale European research networks, including LifeWatch ERIC, to promote interdisciplinary collaboration, open science and evidence-based policymaking. CESAM Director Amadeu Soares, a signatory of the declaration, emphasises its alignment with CESAM’s mission to advance transdisciplinary research for ecosystem sustainability and societal well-being. The Crete Declaration remains open for endorsement by researchers, institutions and organisations committed to collaborative science and sustainable development.
