European Commission Launches Consultation on Fisheries Management Plans

The European Commission has launched a call for evidence on fisheries Multiannual Management Plans (MAPs) across the EU’s sea basins, inviting stakeholders to share feedback through the Commission’s Have Your Say portal.

Open for four weeks, the consultation seeks input from EU countries, the fisheries sector, scientific institutions, NGOs and coastal communities on the implementation and impact of current fisheries management measures.

The Commission is particularly looking at challenges linked to the “most vulnerable stock” approach in the Western Mediterranean and the “5% rule” applied in the Baltic Sea, North Sea and Western Waters, both of which have raised concerns over economic stability and legal clarity for fishers.

The initiative aims to simplify implementation of the plans while maintaining the objectives of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), including sustainable fisheries management.
