The 6th edition of the Mário Ruivo – Gerações Oceânicas Award is now open, inviting young people in Portugal to explore and promote careers related to the ocean through short audiovisual productions.
Under the theme “The Ocean and Maritime Professions”, the initiative encourages participants aged 14 to 21 to create short films showcasing a wide range of maritime professions, including marine biologists, scientific divers, ROV pilots, offshore energy engineers, and underwater archaeologists.
The competition aims to strengthen ocean literacy and raise awareness of career opportunities in the blue economy, while fostering creativity and engagement among younger generations. A total of four categories are included, with a prize of €2,000 awarded in each.
Organised in tribute to Professor Mário Ruivo, the award is supported by several Portuguese institutions, including the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), the Directorate-General for Maritime Policy (DGPM), and the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), among others.
