The 23rd edition of the Joint Webinars on Fisheries Bycatch will take place online on 29 May 2026, bringing together stakeholders from projects including REDUCE, Marine Beacon, CIBBRiNA, ECO-CATCH, Marine Guardian, Life Prometheus and Sea4Future.
This session, led by Lola Riesgo from the Marine Beacon project, will focus on “Spatiotemporal patterns of Mobulidae in the Tropical Atlantic: A unified modelling approach.” The webinar will present research using 15 years of fisheries observer data to better understand the distribution of mobulid rays and associated bycatch risks across the tropical Atlantic.
The study highlights key environmental drivers and identifies major occurrence areas linked to Atlantic upwelling systems, while also exploring how modelling approaches can support fisheries management and conservation efforts for vulnerable marine species.
The Joint Webinars on Fisheries Bycatch are held online twice a month and provide a platform for sharing research, best practices and innovative approaches to reducing fisheries bycatch.
