Atlantic Summit Galway 2026 to advance Europe's ocean research agenda
Ireland will host the Atlantic Summit Galway 2026 on 8–9 October 2026, bringing together leaders from ocean research, policy, industry and society to help shape the future of the Atlantic within Europe's ocean agenda.
Taking place during Ireland's Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Summit is organised by the Marine Institute, the University of Galway and Atlantic Technological University, with support from the Irish Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science.
Under the theme "Advancing Europe's Ocean Research, Skills and Innovation Agenda", the event will focus on identifying priorities for Atlantic Ocean research, addressing future skills needs, fostering innovation and supporting progress under the EU Ocean Pact. The programme will feature high-level plenary sessions, strategic discussions, networking opportunities and scientific and societal side events showcasing research, innovation and community engagement across the Atlantic.
The Summit will also highlight the next generation of ocean professionals, with participants from the 2026 All-Atlantic Intergenerational Hackathon presenting innovative solutions developed during the AAORIA Forum in Salvador, providing Early Career Ocean Professionals with an opportunity to engage directly with policymakers and the wider Atlantic community.
Further information on the programme, registration and expressions of interest will be announced in the coming weeks.
