UNIDO-WTCA Blue Economy Global Call 2026

Innovators working on solutions for a more sustainable and resilient blue economy still have time to apply for the UNIDO-WTCA Blue Economy Global Call 2026, with applications closing on 19 July 2026.

Launched on 20 April 2026, the global call aims to identify and support innovative, scalable solutions that contribute to the sustainable development of the blue economy and the protection of ocean and freshwater ecosystems.

The initiative is seeking solutions across six key areas:

  • Blue Renewable Energy

  • Sustainable Blue Food

  • Green Maritime Transport and Smart Ports

  • Coastal and Marine Tourism & Recreation

  • Sea, Lakes and River Health & Restoration

  • Blue Tech & Biotechnology

Eligible applicants include startups, companies, academic institutions, NGOs and public-private initiatives developing solutions that have reached at least Technology Readiness Level 4. The call particularly encourages applications from women- and youth-led initiatives, as well as projects supporting developing countries and Small Island Developing States.

Six winning solutions will be selected and showcased during the Euro-Mediterranean Water Forum in Rome, Italy, on 1 October 2026. Winners will benefit from an acceleration programme under the umbrella of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the World Trade Centers Association (WTCA), including mentoring, international visibility, business development opportunities and support to scale their impact.

Marine innovators and organisations developing solutions for ocean and water sustainability are encouraged to submit their applications before the 19 July 2026 deadline.
