The TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center has coordinated a series of workshops bringing together public institutions, industry representatives, academia, and civil society to develop a technology roadmap for Türkiye’s maritime sector.

Representatives from government, industry, academia, and civil society have come together in Türkiye to help shape a technology roadmap for the maritime sector, identifying key priorities for innovation, sustainability, and digital transformation.

The workshops were organised as part of the “Technology Roadmap Research Project for the Maritime Industry”, supported by the Transport and Infrastructure Research Centre and coordinated by the TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center. Participants discussed emerging technologies and future needs to support the sector’s long-term development.

Key areas identified include green maritime technologies, such as alternative fuels, energy efficiency, and emissions reduction solutions; autonomous and unmanned maritime systems; and digital transformation, including artificial intelligence, digital twins, big data, and smart port applications.

The discussions also addressed cybersecurity, maritime safety, training technologies, shipbuilding innovation, and strengthening research and development cooperation between public institutions, academia, and industry.

The outcomes of the workshops will contribute to the development of a strategic technology roadmap aimed at supporting a more sustainable, innovative, and resilient maritime industry.
