The TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center hosted the fourth Marmara Region Natural Disasters Workshop, bringing together more than 150 representatives from public institutions, academia, industry, and civil society to discuss integrated approaches to climate, water, and food security.

The workshop addressed several topics relevant to the marine and coastal community, including the impacts of sea-level rise, coastal erosion, flooding, and ecosystem degradation. Participants highlighted the importance of ecosystem-based adaptation, wetland conservation, and integrating climate risks into regional planning to strengthen coastal resilience.

Discussions also focused on sustainable water management, including watershed-based approaches, alternative water sources, and wastewater reuse, as well as the resilience of coastal infrastructure and strategic ports through improved monitoring, early warning systems, and emergency preparedness.

While also covering broader challenges such as industrial resilience and food security, the workshop emphasised the interconnected nature of climate change, water resources, ecosystems, and disaster risk reduction. The outcomes will contribute to efforts to enhance the Marmara Region’s resilience to future environmental challenges.
