The European Commission is inviting companies and organisations working across the ocean observation value chain to contribute to a new survey assessing the competitiveness of Europe’s ocean observation technology sector.
The survey is part of a broader study on the competitiveness of the EU sustainable blue economy and supports the OceanEye initiative, which aims to strengthen Europe’s position as a global leader in ocean observation technology and secure 35% of the global ocean technology market by 2035.
The consultation seeks to better understand the structure, performance, competitiveness and challenges of the European ocean observation sector, as well as its strengths and innovation potential compared with international competitors.
Who can participate?
The survey is aimed at EU businesses and organisations developing, supplying or working with ocean observation technologies, including:
- Sensor and instrument manufacturers
- Autonomous platform and marine robotics developers
- Data and data service providers
- Software and analytics providers
- Systems integrators
- Other ocean observation technology developers and service providers
The survey takes approximately 15–20 minutes to complete, and responses are invited by 15 September 2026.
The findings will contribute to the European Commission’s analysis of the sector and help inform the implementation of the OceanEye initiative, as well as future EU policies, funding programmes and support measures.
Participants will receive a summary of the aggregated findings and, subject to consent, may also be considered for featured case studies highlighting companies from Europe’s ocean observation sector.
Ocean observation stakeholders are encouraged to share their expertise and help shape the future of this strategic sector.
