IO PAN Researchers Conduct Observations at the North Pole

Researchers from the Institute of Oceanology Polish Academy of Sciences (IO PAN) reached the North Pole on 29 July 2026 aboard the Norwegian Coast Guard icebreaker NoCGV Svalbard. The team conducted oceanographic and microstructure measurements as part of the EU-funded HiAOOS project, including CTD and upper-ocean observations, and deployed an Argo float 60 nautical miles from the North Pole. The expedition also involved the recovery of three deep-ocean moorings and the deployment of additional Argo floats, contributing to long-term observation of the changing Arctic Ocean.
