EurOcean member CESAM has recently participated in several initiatives led by the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), strengthening collaboration in ocean research, monitoring and sustainable management.

In August, CESAM PhD researcher Gabriella Rocha joined the AMPO2026 expedition aboard the research vessel Mário Ruivo in the Azores region. The expedition focused on the geological, oceanographic and biological characterisation of marine protected areas, with data collected to support their conservation and management.

The collaboration also includes work on bivalve mollusc monitoring and the implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive, bringing together scientific expertise, research infrastructure and training to support the monitoring and sustainable management of Portugal's marine environment.
