TÜBİTAK MAM Launches New Marine Observation Project in the Black Sea

EurOcean member TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center is coordinating BLACKBOX, a new 28 month project aiming to strengthen continuous marine observation across the Black Sea.

Funded through the EU Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme, the project brings together institutions from Türkiye, Romania, Bulgaria and Georgia to establish automated FerryBox systems on research vessels and at coastal stations. The systems will provide high frequency measurements of parameters including temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, pH, chlorophyll a and pCO₂.

The project will bring data from the four countries together through a shared digital platform, supporting the monitoring of changes in the Black Sea environment and providing scientific information for regional environmental policies and strategies.
