Türkiye Develops Digital Platform to Track Ships’ Carbon Emissions

The TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center and Türkiye’s General Directorate of Maritime Affairs are developing a national digital platform to monitor, calculate and report greenhouse gas emissions from ships calling at Turkish ports.

The MRV-TR Platform will automatically integrate voyage and port movement data from the Port Single Window system to calculate emissions of carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide. Designed to align with European standards, it will also support digital verification and reporting, helping shipping companies and authorities assess emissions and potential financial liabilities.

The platform is expected to undergo its first field test in Kocaeli before being rolled out across 21 port authorities in Türkiye. The project aims to support maritime decarbonisation and strengthen compliance with international emissions standards.
