Marine Science and the UN 2030 Agenda
European Marine Board Forum discusses the role of marine science in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals.

Eurocean's Executive-Director Ned Dwyer attended the 6th European Marine Board (EMB) Forum in Brussels on December 6th on "Implementing the UN 2030 Agenda: What role for marine science?”. The workshop discussed how to promote and foster a greater role for the marine science community in supporting the ongoing work at international level to advance the UN 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Vladimir Ryabinin, Executive-Secretary of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) - a cooperating EurOcean Member - was very pleased to announce that earlier the same week  the United Nations had proclaimed a Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) to gather ocean stakeholders worldwide behind a common framework that will ensure ocean science can fully support countries in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goal 14 on the ocean.

During the day-long event, there were numerous thought provoking and interesting presentations, and panel discussions.

The EMB is currently developing a forum message and full proceedings of the Forum will be available in 2018. In the meantime the presentations are available on the EMB website.
