The European Ocean Coalition

The European Ocean Coalition (EU4Ocean) connects diverse organisations, projects and people that contribute to ocean literacy and the sustainable management of the ocean. Supported by the European Commission, this bottom-up inclusive initiative aims at uniting the voices of Europeans to make the ocean a concern for everyone!

The coalition is made up of three components: a Platform for organisations and individuals engaged in Ocean Literacy initiatives, a European Youth Forum for the Ocean, and a Network of European Blue Schools.

EurOcean was part of the consortium chosen by DG MARE for implementing EU4Ocean (2020-2022). EurOcean’s role was to support the communication activities of the project and to enhance connections across Europe through its network.

EurOcean is one of the EU4Ocean Platform funding members.

The second phase of the EU4Ocean Coalition kicked off in January 2023, following an invitation to tender launched by CINEA in September 2022. In this second phase, EurOcean is committed to supporting EU4Ocean by bringing Ocean Literacy to the private sector and policymakers through three specific activities: Regular Engaging Activities, Cooperative Competitions, and Business Engagement Activities. These activities are designed specifically for the business sector and will bring together small business owners, entrepreneurs, innovators and those involved in advising and supporting policymakers.

As part of EurOcean commitment in Business Engagement Activities, an #EU4Ocean Webinar series has been organised monthly, bringing together experts, industry representatives, and stakeholders to discuss how ocean literacy can support various European business sectors.

With several successful episodes already behind, we have explored a diverse range of topics, each highlighting the crucial role of ocean literacy in shaping a sustainable economy in Europe.
