Save the Date for the Workshop “Coastal Success through Ocean Knowledge”

We are pleased to announce that “Coastal Success through Ocean Knowledge”, an official European Maritime Day (EMD) In My Country 2025 event, will take place in Cobh, County Cork, on 20 May 2025.

This event is organised by Cobh and Harbour Chamber, in partnership with the Port of Cork, EurOcean, JPI Oceans, EMSEA (European Marine Science Educators Association), and EuroGOOS, and held in the framework of both the EU4Ocean Coalition and the Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership.

Set in one of Ireland’s most historically significant maritime towns, the workshop will bring together small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from coastal regions, along with experts in sustainability, marine science, and policy. The aim is to explore how Ocean Literacy – traditionally focused on education and public awareness – can be adapted to support businesses in aligning with sustainability goals, such as the European Green Deal, the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and the forthcoming European Ocean Pact.

Through an interactive, participatory format, the event will:

  • Highlight the role of the ocean in business resilience and sustainability;
  • Showcase best practices and success stories from the local business community;
  • Facilitate dialogue between businesses, researchers, and policy-makers;
  • Contribute to the development of Ocean Literacy tools tailored to the private sector.

The outcomes of this workshop will inform future strategies for integrating Ocean Literacy into business practice and contribute to policy discussions at the European level.

Registration will open shortly.
